Arapaima, an exceptional fish by nature

Arapaima was born in the heart of protected zones in Peruvian Amazonia. This ancient and legendary specie, considered as "the king of Amazonia", is now protected but aquaculture has sustainably guaranteed its continued survival...


A few years ago, near-wild conditions have been recreated to allow this one-of-a-kind fish to preserve its original qualities. Two companies, AMAZONE in Peru, and the ADRIEN GROUP, sharing the same values for sustainable fish farming, have decided to combine their know-how in order to promote this exceptional fish in Europe.

The ARAPAIMA (Arapaima gigas), also known as paiche or Amazonian cod) is the largest freshwater fish in the world. It can grow up to 3 metres long and weigh as much as 200 kg.

 

With its white flesh, its firm yet tender texture, and its subtle flavours, Arapaima is a fish of the highest quality, and is appreciated in the finest restaurants.

The ARAPAIMA has a delicate taste. The fish is low in fat and its meat is a lovely white colour. This is an exceptionally healthy fish: rich in protein (20 g for every 100 g of meat) and with little fat, it's perfect for well-balanced meals. This is an exceptional fish with no equal in aquaculture in terms of size and it offers regular cuts of meat that are perfect for the plate." says Hervé Galidie, french Chef in Lima.
